TITLE: Senior Pastor
STATUS: Full-Time
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Senior Pastor will lead and guide Immanuel CRC through effective preaching and teaching of the Gospel, purposeful and relationship-based pastoral care, and servant-modeled leadership. All activities will be primarily focused on reflecting our vision to advance God’s kingdom in our hearts, neighborhood and in the next generation.
PRIMARY MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Preaching & Teaching
    • Prepares and delivers Biblically based, Christ-centered preaching for Sunday and special worship services.
    • Provides consistent teaching and encouragement in support of seeking and growing disciples.
  • Pastoral Care
    • Supports pastoral care needs of the church as appropriate, through development of personal relationships, and in partnership with Council.
    • Officiates at marriages, funerals and other special functions as needed.
  •  Leadership and Administration
    • Works with the Council and other church staff to formulate and communicate the overall vision and goals of the church.
    • Supervises, equips, mentors, encourages, and supports church staff as they seek to advance the vision and goals of the church.
    • Maintains current knowledge of ministry plans and activities; provides pertinent communication regarding ministry events/activities to appropriate persons/groups.
OTHER MINISTRY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Worship
    • Provides final approval and direction for Immanuel’s worship services in close alignment with Worship Coordinator.
    • Ensures, along with the Elders, that the preaching of the Word, prayer, praise, receiving of gifts and the administration of the Lord’s Supper and baptism are conducted faithfully.
    • Leads and facilitates new members classes and professions of faith.
    • Serves as a member of the Worship committee.
  • Other
    • Prepares and provides documents and reports, as requested.
    • Accomplishes classis and denominational responsibilities as needed.
    • Serves as a non-voting member of church Council and Elder Teams.
    • Supports the prayer ministry of the church.
SPIRITUAL, PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ordained pastor qualified to serve in the Christian Reformed Church.
  • Exhibits a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life submitted to the work of the Holy Spirit.
  • Exhibits a passion for ministering to both seekers and those already on a faith journey.
  • Understands and believes the tenets of the Reformed Christian faith.
  • Exhibits gifts in the areas of preaching/teaching, leadership, and discipleship.
  • Commits to working with the Council and other staff in carrying out the vision and goals of Immanuel CRC
  • Commits to continued spiritual and professional growth.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND REPORTING:
  • The Senior Pastor is accountable to the Pastoral Elders and the Executive Committee.
  • The Senior Pastor’s work and performance will be reviewed annually by the Executive committee.
  • The Senior Pastor will be assisted by the Pastoral Elders on a periodic basis to develop goals and plans for ministry at Immanuel CRC.
